The ClassicHow to pose clients who want clear direction

Polished, composed, timeless. Tell you the plan and you'll nail it.

On camera

  1. 01Clear direction makes you shine
  2. 02You hold a pose beautifully
  3. 03Timeless, elegant frames suit you best

You like knowing the plan, and once you do, you deliver. Clean lines, good posture, a look straight down the lens: you were made for the frame on the mantel. You feel most confident when the direction is clear and the details are taken care of.

For photographers

How to photograph The Classic

Comfortable enough, calm, wants explicit direction, subtle expression. They trust structure: precise posing, explained, with visible progress.

Warm-up

  • Walk them through the shot list and the order of locations at the start.
  • Begin with a classic, reliable portrait to give them a quick win.

Directing style

Pose-led. Give exact physical cues (weight on back foot, hands here, chin forward and down), then refine with one prompt for expression.

Structured and steady: one location, one series, check, move on. Add one or two looser prompts at the end once they trust the result.

Prompts that work

  1. 1Weight on your back foot, turn toward them, and smile with your eyes only.
  2. 2Hold their hand at hip level and look at me. Now at each other.
  3. 3Stand behind, hands on their waist, both look at the camera.
  4. 4Walk slowly toward me in step, looking ahead.
  5. 5Seated, knees angled, hands stacked, chin slightly forward.
  6. 6Formal pose, then on three, look at each other and laugh.
  7. 7Look over your shoulder at me.
  8. 8Kiss, then pause halfway and smile.

Avoid

  • Vague prompts with no physical cue
  • Chaotic, running sequences early on
  • Surprising them with sudden changes of plan
  • Too many "be silly" moments

Say / don't say

  • Say“Perfect, hold that.”
  • Say“One small change:”
  • Say“Here's exactly what to do.”
  • Not“Just do whatever.”
  • Not“Be spontaneous!”
  • Not“Go crazy.”
