Engagement session questionnaire
The engagement session is the rehearsal for the wedding day: the first time you photograph them together, and the first time they see how you work. These questions help you plan a session that feels like them, not like a catalog.
When to send it
One to two weeks before the session, once the date and location are booked.
Paste them into HoneyBook, Dubsado, Google Forms or an email.
Client questionnaire · Engagement
Your story
- How did you meet?
- What do you love doing together on a free weekend?
- Is there a place that means something to you both: where you met, got engaged or had your first date?
- How did the proposal happen?
The session
- Do you picture these photos in a city, in nature, at home, or somewhere unexpected?
- What will you use them for: save-the-dates, a guest book, your wedding website, your walls?
- Would you like to bring something personal: your dog, a hobby, a favorite snack, a vintage car?
- Send two or three photos you've saved and love, and tell me what you like about them.
Outfits
- What are you planning to wear? Two outfits work well: one dressier, one relaxed.
- Would you like help coordinating colors or choosing between options?
On camera
- Have you had professional photos taken together before? How did it feel?
- Which of you is more comfortable in front of the camera?
- How do you feel about kissing or affection in public places?
- Is there anything you'd like me to avoid or be mindful of?
How to use the answers
Use their story as prompts
The places and habits they list are your scenario prompts: reenact the first date, walk the route of the proposal, argue about the dish they always argue about.
Size the location to their comfort
A couple who is shy about public affection will relax faster on a quiet trail than in a busy downtown plaza at noon.
Note what works for the wedding day
Write down which prompts got real laughs. They'll work again on the wedding day, when you have far less time.
The question forms get wrong
Most clients don't know how they like to be directed.
So they write “we're awkward” and leave it there. Send the Good Side camera quiz with your questionnaire: two minutes on their phone, and you get their camera type and a session plan with prompts in order.
